Hyperpigmentation is caused by an increase in melanin which is the pigment that gives skin colour. It normally appears in patches across the skin, but can also affect the nails. It’s more common in people with darker skin tones and may become more agressive with more sun exposure.

Although sun exposure is the main factor there are other contributors to hyperpigmentation such as hormones during pregnancy, the contraceptive pill, certain medications and acne.

The most effective way to prevent hyperpigmentation is to use a high factor sunscreen. Vitamin C, azelaic acid, mandelic acid, hydroquinone, and niacinamide are also all-powerful ingredients used in our products to treat hyperpigmentation. They increase collagen production, have the ability to aid in water retention and act as natural lightening agents.
